Walking and Cycling

Walking

The Northwest highlands surrounding Kinlochbervie are a walkers’ paradise, providing majestic but a sparsely populated landscape. Plenty of relatively gentle walks are available from the well-defined 4 mile track over peatland to Sandwood Bay or circular routes around both Loch Innes and Oldshoremore Bay.

Further afield, more challenging trails can encompass the mountain terrain of Arkle, Foinaven and Cranstakie. Walking boots, compass and the correct clothing will be the order of the day amongst these high peaks.

Whether it’s white pristine beaches, the lochs and waterfalls or quartzite peaked mountains, there are plenty of options to suit your taste and experience.

A walking guide to the area will be published in the next few months.  In the meantime, have a look at the following website for more information.

Cape Wrath Trail

The long-distance Cape Wrath Trail is a challenging backpacker’s route that runs from Fort William to Cape Wrath.

For those interested in mountain walks, Foinaven and Arkle are largely pathless.  They are challenging walks suited for those with experience.  Ben Stack is easily accessible from the road and moderately easy in good weather.
