Mountains

Three impressive mountains form a back-drop to Kinlochbervie and can be seen from just about anywhere in the area.  From north to south they are Foinaven (2,989 feet), Arkle (2,582 feet) and Ben Stack (2,365 feet).  The first 2 are Corbetts (between 2,500 and 3,000 feet) while Ben Stack is a Graham (2000-2500 feet).  If you are interested in walking/climbing, please open the page on Walking in the Things to Do Tab.

Foinaven and Arkle have layers of Cambrian quartzite (530 million years old) lying over a base of Lewisian Gneiss - pre-Cambrian rocks that are up to 3 billion years old.

Ben Stack is a conical mountain that appears to erupt from the land around it.  Slightly further away from Kinlochbervie, it is easily accessible from Achfary. In good weather, it is a moderately easy walk.
