|Last week's Northern Times reported how there is a staffing problem with the ambulance based at Kinlochbervie.|
It reports that between January and July this year there as no-one available to staff it on 14 days, and that there was only a single person available on 114 days.
Given how remote the northwest corner of Scotland is this comes as disturbing news.
The Scottish Ambulance Service acknowledges the problem and cites problems recruiting and retaining staff. One problem may be that the positions are only part-time, however I am not aware of having seen any advertisements for the posts.
Having checked the Vacancies page of their website this morning there is no mention of Kinlochbervie or the northwest, indeed there is only vacancy for ambulance staff and that is for Glasgow.
Local MSP Jamie Stone has again written to Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon stressing the seriousness of the situation and the apparent lack of progress since last year.
In the meantime medivac operations continue to be carried out by the RAF and Coastguard whose helicopters make frequent use of the helipad down at Kinlochbervie harbour.
