|Funding has been found to upgrade part of the A838 just north of Laxford Bridge.|
£500,000 has been allocated from the European Rural Development Fund which will be added to Highland Council funding for the Vital Highland Roads project. The total outlay is expected to be in the region of £3,000,000 over three years.
Not all of this will be spent on the A838, of course. Other routes earmarked for upgrading include the A890 near to Strathcarron (Wester Ross) and A861 at Kinlochmoidart (Lochaber).
The planned upgrades include widening single track sections, lengthening passing places, and improving visibility.
No other information is available at present, including any start date. Indeed, very little information about the Vital Highland Roads project can be found anywhere but it is thought to be wholly comprised of the Highland Council.
