|Many thanks to everyone who supported Gary's recent 'No Booze November' - a whopping £585 was raised for the Anthony Nolan Trust!|
As Gary says, "Orange juice and lemonade is no substitute for a good pint of Guinness but needs must and I stuck it out to the bitter end.
It costs about £100 to perform the necessary testing to add a new person the the Register so with your help that's six more donors who can be added and who might one day save a person's life.
I've been on the Register for more than 20 years and began fund raising for the ANT back in the mid-1970s.
Thank you all very much for your support - I couldn't have done it without you!"
|The Anthony Nolan Trust began back in 1974 when three year old Anthony Nolan was desperately in need of a bone marrow transplant. At that time there was no register of donors and so his mother, Shirley, began one.|
Sadly Anthony died before a suitable match could be found for him but the work of the Trust founded in his name continued and today there are roughly 480,000 registered with them as potential donors and more than 10,000 stem cell transplants have taken place as a result.
A whole wealth of information can be found on the Anthony Nolan Trust's website at www.anthonynolan.org
If you're aged between 16 and 30 please consider becoming a stem cell donor.
