|Take a bit of extra care on the beach this week as large numbers of Lion's Mane jellyfish have been reported washed up on Oldshoremore beach.|
These jellyfish can give you a nasty sting if touched, even long after they're dead so it's best to give them a wide berth. They can easily be identified by their angry red colouration.
Interestingly, the Lion's Mane jellyfish is reportedly the longest animal in the sea, with the tentacles of large specimens extending for many metres.
The Marine Conservation Society publish a very informative guide to jellyfish that you can obtain from their website.
